In 2001-3, Nick Havely walked about 400km along the route of the 'Grande Escursione Appenninica'. The narrative of his trek forms the frame for stories of many earlier journeys (from medieval to modern times) in his recent book: Apennine Crossings: Travellers on the Edge of Tuscany (Oxford University Press, 2024). His illustrated talk will draw upon episodes from the book to show how he and those earlier travellers experienced the ridge on or near some of its summits.
The talk will be held at the Alpine Club's premises at 55 Charlotte Road, London, EC2A 3QF from 7PM on 8 April 2025.
